Super Bowl Party at Kung Fu this Sunday

Posted on

Looking for a last minute spot to watch the Super Bowl this Sunday? A place that has happy hour all day long? What about a spot where you can enter to win a 42″ flat screen TV? Kung Fu Saloon is offering all three of these, plus more! Every Sunday is free game day at the Saloon. If you haven’t been, they’ve got every arcade game from Ski Ball to Mortal Kombat. To celebrate the Bowl, Kung Fu will have $1 Mimosas until 5 p.m., plus other happy hour specials all day. And they’re giving away a flat screen TV. If you don’t want to worry about finding a table to watch the game, you can reserve a one, complete with buckets-o-beer! Or if you want to watch the game with a touch of peace and quiet but still want to go out (c’mon, we all have that feeling from time to time), reserve one of their karaoke rooms for you and your fellow fans. For reservations, contact Liz at This Sunday, Kung Fu’s got something for everyone. Do the names Brady and Manning mean nothing to you? No worries, just toss back some mimosas while you toss that ski ball. Who knows, you could be the lucky one to walk away with a flat screen TV.

Do713 Presents: Top 2011 Houston Bands

Posted on

Here it is, folks, our first installment of what bands/musicians/rappers were most popular on Do713. How did we come to this conclusion? We looked at who had the most followers, the most votes and the most events.  Six of the musicians listed below were in at least two of those categories. But only one musician was in all three. Which do you think it was? Without further ado and in no particular order, below are the groups that you loved in 2011.  Click here for a playlist of your favs. Congrats to all!

Garage pop trio Young Girls

If you don’t know who  Robert Ellis is yet, you will.

Tax the Wolf received the 2010 Best Band Name award from the Houston Press, but that’s not all they’re good at.

Amazing indie-folk Buxton

Not only did the legendary  Bun B make our list, he’s also teaching “Religion and Hip-Hop Culture” at Rice University

Seems like only Houston could have produced a band like Indian Jewelry

Theatrical & epic  Roky Moon & BOLT

The most unique, The Tontons

G4 TV freestyler, Devin the Dude

World-touring, indie poppers  Wild Moccasins

Keep voting, following and liking events and encourage your circle to do the same! So…which one do you think ranked highly on all three categories?

Via Colori This Weekend at Sam Houston Park

Posted on

Via Colori isn’t your typical fundraiser. For six years, the Center for Hearing and Speech, benefits greatly from our pure entertainment. This weekend, Via Colori is expected to raise more than $325,000 for children with hearing impairments.

Bring the family to Sam Houston Park in Downtown and experience sidewalk-chalk art like you’ve never imagined. Street artists from all over the country will inspire you with their lively multi-dimensional (albeit temporary) pieces.

There will also be plenty of activities for the kiddos and young-at-heart.

All proceeds benefit the Center for Hearing and Speech.

Saturday, 11/19, 10 am – 6 pm

Sunday, 11/20, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Austin’s 6th annual Fun Fun Fun Fest kicks off today! Touted as one of the city’s more unique un-fests, the ever-expanding FFFFest will feature over 100 entertainers, including a stage dedicated to comedy. New to 2011 – the festival will be webcast live on! That way all you suckas that can’t make it will feel the knife twisting a bit more. Hey – I was that sucker last month during ACL, #CantBelieveIMissedDFA1979

In addition to my most excellent FFFF schedule and playlist, the Do713 team also recommends seeing these guys this weekend:

Ra Ra Riot

Lykke Li

Neon Indian
