Daniel Johnston’s Birthday Bash & Last Weekend for Illume

Large, illuminated photos at Discovery Green; a local musician’s 50th birthday and an artist’s parody; these are a few of the happenings this weekend. Read more to get the details!

Here’s something sure to please everyone; it’s the last weekend to check out the Red Bull Illume exhibit at Discovery Green. Fifty oversized photos from across the globe will be will be illuminated, nightly. These incredible images are of adventure sports, captured by daring & talented artists. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., ends Monday 1/17.

Daniel Johnston’s 50th birthday party this Friday, at Fitzgerald’s will not be one to miss. Performing will be Houston greats: Mr. Johnston, himself; Roky Moon & Bolt; Spain Colored Orange;  The Mathletes and more plus Ceeplus Bad Knives on turntables. Happy Birthday, Daniel!!

Patricia Hernandez: Parody of Light at PG Contemporary & DiverseWorks Artspace, this Saturday will feature Hernandez’s critiques of Thomas Kinkade’s work in a light-hearted yet serious manner. Keep an eye out for the Closing Day Event at DiverseWorks Artspace, where proceeds will go to a local charity for the arts community. Art will be on display at PG Contemporary from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., then at DiverseWorks Artspace from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
